Yuko Toku

My pieces are made with ties that belonged to my friends’ husband who passed away and these are created as memories for the family. I can make pillows with the most of any memorable and personal fabric. Pillows last long time and can be passed onto another generation. It is a good transformation.

I have been teaching sewing and patterns to children in my home studio in Lions Bay and I recently have been spending more time on custom orders such as memory pillows, garment with kimono fabric and so on.

I also make pouches, each one has a different colour contrast – that is what I enjoy the most about textiles.

I love colour combinations and this brings me joy and inspiration especially when they all come together.
